Use Your Gift

READY:
“. . .whatever you do, you must do all for the glory of God.”
-1 Corinthians 10:31b

SET:
Have you ever received a note or a phone call at just the right time? I did today. I had just arrived at Northwestern for my weekly visit to their football team when my phone rang. I had no clue who was calling because it was shown as a “private call.” What happened next was a much needed blessing in my life today.

Role Modeling

READY:
“Be imitators of me, as I also am of Christ.”
-1 Corinthians 11:1

SET:
I was recently honored by a close friend in an article in FCA’s Sharing the Victory magazine. Jason Wright, a dear brother in Christ, told how I had been a spiritual father-figure to him. I’m not sure I deserve that type of praise, but I do cherish my relationship with him. In my role as chaplain at Northwestern University I strive to be the best role model I can be for the athletes there. I fall short many times, but not for a lack of trying.

No Quit In This Cat

Ready:
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
-Hebrews 12:1-2

Set:
There is an old saying, “It is not the size of the cat in the fight, but the size of the fight in the cat.” This holds true for a senior captain of the Northwestern University football team, Louis Ayeni. Louis is a fifth-year senior who has earned the right to be named a captain of this year’s team. But his road has not been an easy one.
